Part of a heritage lottery funded scheme to explore and restore Barnstaple’s heritage, Albert clock was constructed in 1862. The works involved undertaking a detailed repair schedule of the envelope, clock mechanism and internal fixtures in conjunction with specialist clock repairers and stonemasons.
The works were formally tendered and let as a traditional contract and ran on site with appraisal contractor effectively managing specialist sub contractors for various elements of the work. Work included stone repairs and replacement, conversion of the clock mechanism to auto winding, movement and bell overhaul, internal masonry repairs, clock face removal, renovation and repairs, lead work repairs and overhaul of the entire listed structure.
