The Practice was approached by a private housing developer who had ownership of an existing disused garage & warehouse of circa 405 sqm. The site was challenging in geometry and in an awkward town-centre location with party wall constraints on all boundaries, with an additional flying freehold situation beneath a neighbouring adjacent property.

The design solution proposed 8no terraced three-storey new build houses. 2no terraces of 4no ‘mews-style’ town houses – total ground floor footprint of 245sqm. 1 terrace is rectilinear and 113 sqm, the other is defined by site boundaries with fewer right angles and is approx 132 sqm. The architectural and material response played on local features and materials to create a contemporary housing development.

The project also utilises Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) as its main structural/wall component offer robust and highly insulated fabric for the houses.
