North Devon Council proposed a number of “green wedges” between Barnstaple (the main town of the district) and surrounding villages. We were commissioned to test the landscape and visual evidence for a proposed green wedge policy in the local plan and to recommend robust boundary definitions for the wedges.

Our work drew on existing landscape character assessments and baseline studies. This work was supported by extensive fieldwork and desktop research. The resulting studies form part of the evidence base for the current local plan.
